do you think i should?!

We were gathered in Pastor Brian’s office for a showdown of what my husband’s career meant, and what it ultimately should be.  

  ”I can’t do something I don’t love.  Besides, I believe this is what I am talented at and should go into.  No one can tell me what career I ought to do.  I want to do something that I want to do.”

  ”Well, You do understand, that for a woman, they need to know they have security.  Now that you are married, you can not just think of yourself.  You have to think about your wife as well.”

  I sat there in silence while they picked their battles and determine aaron’s fate.

  ”I checked out some jobs as a teacher, and they can earn some good money.  I would be willing to do that.”

  ”What do you think, Zabrina?”

  ”Well, the other matter is,”  I said, sulkily, “is I don’t think he is doing this for me or for God.  He is doing this for himself.”

  ”What Zabrina is concerned about,” Brian explained to aaron, “is that you are not doing this for God.  Have you prayed about this?”

  ”Yes, and I believe that God wants me to do with the talent and gift he gave me as a musician.

  I thought to myself, “what a bunch of a baloney!  does he think he is fooling Brian?  why don’t you come out and start being honest with others besides me for a change!”

  ”Besides, I am confused with the deity of God.  How do you know what God wants?  I don’t really believe that God has a plan for us.  I believe that we choose our own path, and that we have many paths that we can choose from.  We don’t just have one path.  That’s where free will comes in.”

 

  Brian took this all in with calm.  ”If you have these doubts about God, then these are issues we need to discuss.  Zabrina has been concerned about your will to follow God, and women needs security, someone she can look to for spiritual leadership.  That is one of the things in scripture for men to follow.  They must love their wife as Jesus loves the church.  There is a reason that men is told to “love” their wife and women to “obey and submit” to men.  God knows that women does not have any trouble loving and men has no trouble submitting.  That is why God did not put those in scriptures.  But he does know, however, that men has trouble “loving” and woemn has trouble “submitting”.  God does not need to write something that he knows does not exist.”

  ”I have trouble believing that about men and women,”  aaron argued. “we are all different with different personalities.” 

  ”I think we should schedule a time to talk aoub our doubts and feelings.  Do you know I deal with many people such as yourself, that if they do not ask these questions and seek answers, they will live forever in their doubts and soon,  fall away.”  ”I think zabrina would feel better if you addressed this issue, not only for her, but for yourself in the long run.”

  ”I guess I can do that,”  Aaron said.

  ”great, now let me pray for you before you go”  And Brian prayed a nice prayer.

  ”Thank you so much, Brian”  I said wholeheartedly.  

  And then we said our goodbyes and went our ways.  ”This was the start of something new, something wonderful,”  I thought.  ”I can’t wait to see what new things aaron will learn from Pastor Brian.”

  Little did I know, this IS the start of something.  Some moments can change the course of one’s life, forever.  And if i don’t follow my conscience, fate can take a turn for the worse.
